Tips & tricks for the 9 times table

The finger trick: hold up 10 fingers, fold down the nth finger. Fingers to the left = tens, to the right = ones. Example: 9 × 3 — fold 3rd finger → 2 left, 7 right → 27.

The digits of any multiple of 9 always add up to 9: 9, 18 (1+8=9), 27 (2+7=9), 36 (3+6=9)...

The tens digit goes up by 1, the ones digit goes down by 1: 09, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90.

Quick trick: 9 × n = 10 × n − n. Example: 9 × 7 = 70 − 7 = 63.
